Peoples Sport in Barnsley is an exciting new project which aims to tell the story of ordinary and extra-ordinary people who have participated in sport in Barnsley. The project is focussed particularly on Shaw Lane, which has been a centre for amateur sport since its completion in 1864.

The projects aims are to establish a collection of memories and artefacts which can be used to preserve the sporting history of the site.

Peoples Sport in Barnsley will involve young people and families in telling the story of “our own sporting heroes”.

We intend to preserve and enhance the towns sporting heritage for generations to come.

This website will be constantly evolving and changing and will eventually become the home of peoples sporting memories of Barnsley, using all manner of media.

We have been funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund and work in close co-operation with Experience Barnsley, the town’s award-winning museum and visitor attraction.
